Tracking the progress of your Kenyan passport application is crucial to ensure your travel plans remain on schedule. With the innovative passport tracking service introduced by the Directorate of Immigration, applicants can smoothly navigate the process from submission to issuance.

This digital service offers real-time updates, providing peace of mind as you await your passport’s arrival.

Kenyan Passport Tracking Application Status

Recent advancements in tracking methods have simplified the process for both Kenyan residents and those in the diaspora, allowing them to effortlessly check the status of their Kenyan passport application.

Here are three effective ways to track your application:

1. Posta Passport Tracking

The Directorate of Immigration has partnered with Posta Kenya to enhance passport delivery across the nation. You can track your passport using the following steps:

  • Visit the Posta tracking portal.
  • Input your 10-digit tracking number.
  • Click on “Track My Passport” to view the progress of your application.

2. SMS Tracking

For applicants with pending applications or uncollected passports, checking the application status is as simple as sending an SMS. To do this:

  • Send an SMS containing your eCitizen application reference code to 22222.
The Directorate is continuously upgrading its facilities to improve user experience and handle the growing number of clients.

3. eCitizen Passport Tracking

All passport applications in Kenya are submitted online via the eCitizen portal. Here’s how to track your application:

  • Log in to your eCitizen account.
  • Navigate to the Directorate of Immigration section.
  • On your dashboard, check the status of your application, which may show as accepted, rejected, or ready for collection. This method incurs no additional costs, allowing you to check your application’s status frequently.

Stages of Passport Processing in Kenya

Understanding the stages of passport processing is essential for applicants. Here’s a brief overview of the steps involved in obtaining or renewing a Kenyan passport:

  1. Create and log in to your eCitizen account, filling out the passport application form online and submitting it with the necessary documents and fees.
  2. Document verification takes place through your eCitizen account under the Department of Immigration Service.
  3. Complete the application form and make payments.
  4. Visit a designated immigration office for biometric data capture, including fingerprints and photographs.
  5. Your application undergoes processing and approval, followed by background checks.
  6. Once approved, your passport is printed and dispatched to a chosen collection point or sent via courier.

Passport Application Fees in Kenya

As of November 7, 2023, passport application fees have changed:

  • The fee for a standard 34-page passport has increased from Ksh. 4,550 to Ksh. 7,500.
  • The 50-page ordinary passport now costs Ksh. 9,500, up from Ksh. 6,050.
  • The 66-page ordinary passport fee is now Ksh. 12,500.

Replacement fees are also updated, with a regular replacement now costing Ksh. 20,000 and a mutilated passport replacement at Ksh. 10,000.

Processing Time for Kenyan Passports

Recent improvements at the Directorate of Immigration aim to expedite passport issuance:

  • From May 1, 2024, processing will take 21 days.
  • By August 1, 2024, the time will be reduced to 7 days.
  • From November 1, 2024, it will be just 3 days.

These enhancements are part of a broader initiative to eliminate backlogs and enhance service delivery.

Validity Period and Biometric Features of Kenyan Passports

Kenyan passports are valid for ten years and come equipped with biometric features, including fingerprints and digital photographs, meeting modern requirements for travel.

Tracking your Kenyan passport application has never been easier, with multiple options available including SMS, eCitizen portal, and Posta tracking. These advancements eliminate the need for in-person visits to immigration offices, ensuring you stay informed throughout the process.
